Wishing your fellow showmen “dry lots and red ones” is like telling an actor to break a leg. Mom and Dad saw quite a red one the first time it played Baltimore in 1957 after legal restrictions were lifted.

First, the Knights of Columbus came out in full uniformcomplete with swordsto protest the movie. Then, the Masons came out to protest the Knights.

The local paper ran it, and everyone came out to see what was the big deal, and they sold lots of tickets. And in the end, that Baltimore run was one of the show’s best runs ever.
