about

[commentary track]
In 1959, a change in New York’s laws made it legal for exploitation films to finally play in the big city. Having Mom and Dad play the Big Apple was one of Babb’s biggest dreams and he jumped at the chance.

But what was scandalous in 1945 hardly made an impression on New Yorkers in 1959. Only bad weather seemed to get people into the theater; they just wanted to get out of the rain and didn’t care what was on the screen.

Despite the dismal numbers, Babb insisted on sticking it out.

lyrics

Thank God it's raining. Now they'll start to come inside. To wait it out. And we'll get to charge them then. Just wait and see. Things will turn around. Just trust me.

I know you want to pull out. Cut your losses, call it a day. I'm just asking for one more chance. Just wait and see. Things will turn around. Just trust me.

This is all I ever wanted. This is all I've ever asked for from the start. This is all I've ever needed. Can't you see that we just need to wait and see? Things will turn around. Just trust me.

Just wait and see. Things will turn around. Just trust me.
